How to Create a WordPress Popup Based on Location (Step by Step)
Do you want to create a WordPress popup based on the location of your visitors?
By creating WordPress popups based on location, you can get the right marketing message across to the right people at the right time. This means a better user experience and more revenue for your WordPress site.
In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to create popups based on a user’s location and add them to WordPress.
What are location-based popups?
Location-based popups are similar to standard popups, but they are only displayed to visitors from certain locations.
So visitors from the USA will see different popups than visitors from Great Britain or Spain.
You can further refine your location targeting and target specific states and cities. This allows visitors to Florida to see a different popup than visitors to California.
This process is called geotargeting and it allows you to encourage your visitors to take certain actions on your website based on where they live.
Why add WordPress popups based on location?
Using location-based popups in WordPress provides your visitors with an extremely relevant experience. It shows your visitors that you understand their needs and can lead to better conversions.
This level of personalization can help you achieve your website goals, such as: B. Grow your email list or make money online.
Using geolocation popups can help your business website in a number of ways.

How to create a location-based WordPress popup
The easiest way to add popups to your WordPress website is to use a plugin.
We recommend using OptinMonster. It’s the best WordPress popup plugin out there with over 1.2 million users.
With OptinMonster’s drag and drop editor, you can easily create a popup campaign in minutes. Plus, it’s easy to personalize your pop-ups based on the page you’re viewing, the actions taken on your website, and more.
First you have to install and activate the plugin. For more information, see our guide on installing a plugin in WordPress.
The OptinMonster plugin acts as a connection between your WordPress site and the OptinMonster software.
Once the plugin is activated, you will have a new menu item called “OptinMonster” in your WordPress administrator dashboard.
Click on “OptinMonster” to open your OptinMonster dashboard.
Then click on “Start setup wizard” to connect your site to OptinMonster. If this is your first time here, it’s free to create a new account.
After you have gone through the setup wizard, your site will now be connected to OptinMonster.
To create your location-based popup, navigate to OptinMonster »Campaigns.
Then click “Add New” to create a new popup campaign.
Then select the campaign type “Popup”.
Next, choose the campaign template. Your template forms the basis for the design of your popup. So choose a template that is very similar to the design you want.
For this tutorial, we will select the checkout template. When you’ve found a template you like, hover over it and click “Use Template”.
Then you need to name your campaign.
This name will not appear in your design. Instead, it is meant to help you remember what type of campaign you created.
Then click on “Start Building”.
This will take you to the OptinMonster app, where you can customize the appearance of your popup.
You can completely customize your popup by adding new blocks, text, headings and more. Just click on the item you want to edit and the options menu will appear on the left.
When you’re happy with the way your location-based popup looks, click Save, then click the Display Rules tab at the top of the screen.
Here you set your location triggers.
The default rule is that your popup will appear on every page after a visitor has been on the site for 5 seconds.
You need to change the first rule to the physical location of the visitor. To do this, click the “Time on Page” display rule and select “Physical Location”.
Now you can set the popup to show to visitors who are in a specific location.
You also have the option to include or exclude visitors in an EU country.
We’re going to set the rule to show the popup when a visitor is in Las Vegas, NV.
Then click on “Validate”.
A popup will now appear listing the available locations based on your input. Simply select the location you want and click “Next Step”.
OptinMonster also gives you the option to add an animated effect or sound on the next screen. However, we keep the default settings.
Once you’ve done that, hit the “Next Step” button again and you’ll be taken to the summary page where you can review your location pop-up settings.
If your settings are correct, navigate to the Publish tab and switch the Publish Status from Draft to Publish.
Then click on “Save” and exit the screen.
Your popup based on your user’s location will now appear on your website.
If you want to create multiple popups based on location, follow the steps above and change the display rules to the new user location.
With OptinMonster you can run multiple popup campaigns at the same time and deliver a targeted experience to all of your visitors.
